Why Buy A Pop Up Gazebo From Nicoll Industries
I have sold pop up gazebos since 1999 and I would still rate the most popular question when talking to customers is "Why should I buy from you and not one of your competitors?"
Aren't All Pop Up Gazebos The Same?
As a retailer of gazebos, whose main business is completed via e-commerce, we are faced with the problem of how do we convince potential customers that our product is of a higher quality and has a perceivable higher value than those of our nearest competitor. I can flick through the pages of a popular high street catalogue company and find a pop up gazebo for around £100. I look at the image and it looks very similar to the pop up gazebos that I can find online for around £500 or £600 pounds. So potential customers ask "why should I pay out all that money when I can get a gazebo for £100? Surely, you are just ripping me off."
So, as a retailer, we spend hours and hours creating specification sheets listing leg and rib thickness, cover thickness, joint durability and a whole host of other technical jargon to show that our gazebo is of a higher quality than comparable ones. Take our Instaframe 50 range for example - we have sold this pop up gazebo for over a decade. Ours has been developed over time to the point where I can confidently say that we offer the original and best for the money. However, over the last few years, several other companies have sprung up selling cheaper imitations, but marketing them as a comparable product. Unfortunately they are not the same. They are cheaper for a reason and that reason is that corners are cut. They are poor quality copies manufactured from joints that are brittle and crack under pressure, the mast joints have one arm on each side instead of two, which allows for twisting in the wind and breaks the cross bars, the covers are made from a cheap polyester which is PU coated instead of PVC coated and allows water ingress, and the valance is not sewn on as a separate piece which means the roof is baggy and will allow water to collect on the roof face, which will eventually tear and stain the fabric. I could go on. Ultimately, we find that our customers do not care how big the leg is on their gazebo. All they care about is, will it do the job they want it to, without letting them down.
Quality Is Remembered Long After Price Has Been Forgotten
The old adage that "You Get What You Pay For" is one to bear in mind when looking to buy a pop up gazebo. On a weekly basis we have customers calling us who have purchased cheap pop up gazebos and now understand that perhaps they didn't do the right thing. Take for example a customer that I was speaking to this morning - Mr B. He had been made redundant from a large company where he had worked as a senior sales person for over a decade. With his redundancy money he had decided to go into business himself selling perfume. He initially decided to stand the markets in the run up to Christmas and thought they would be an ideal introduction to his business. Having looked at all of the gazebos on offer he came up with a budget and he opted to purchase a cheap gazebo from an auction site. He openly admits that the images looked the same and even the specification seemed comparable. However, after three uses he took out his gazebo to erect on a very busy Saturday market and was dismayed when a joint snapped causing two of the rib bars to buckle and to put a hole through the roof cover. Unfortunately it was also raining, so without cover for his stock, he had to pack up and go home, losing his standing money and a days trading, plus the market manager was not happy.
He contacted the company that he bought the gazebo from, but they were not interested in his pleas of help and were unable to offer spares as they were not prepared to cannibalise their stock. As a result, he contacted us and we were able to help him chose the product that was right for him and his needs. Mr B's experience is, unfortunately, not an isolated one. I can totally understand how daunting it is to be bombarded with technical details, price promises and all singing and dancing company marketing that reels you in. I was watching X Factor on Saturday night and one of the judges commented on one of the contestants having a large entourage of backing dancers, glitter and fireworks, to cover up the fact that ultimately, their voice was not what it should have been. All the flash was to detract from the poor vocals. This is exactly the same in business.
